An embodiment of artistic passion and social consciousness, Joel Biembe has made a unique mark on the local art scene. Born in Kinshasa in 1994, Joel is not only an artist but an environmental advocate. He undertook his art studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, graduating with a degree in Plastic Art.

Joel’s journey into the art world began in earnest in 2016 when he apprenticed at the Katena workshop under the masterful guidance of Super Alain. Ever since, he has immersed himself in the artistic universe, constantly pushing boundaries and exploring new ideas in contemporary visual art and performance.

Joel’s educational background serves as a solid foundation for his artistic endeavors. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Plastic Art from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa in 2017, following a prior degree in Latin-Philo from the Saint Eric Institute.

Over the years, Joel has participated in several collective exhibitions. Highlights include virtual exhibits during the lockdown, participation in the Tosangana exhibition at the National Museum of Kinshasa, a solo exhibition at the Mont-Des-Arts Cultural House, a group exhibition at the French Institute, and a solo exhibition commemorating the 62nd anniversary of Patrice Emery Lumumba’s passing.

Joel’s work centers on the art of recycling – a creative and environmental statement. He employs plastic bottles as his canvas, giving them a new life filled with meaning. His art aims to shed light on the harsh reality of environmental pollution while encouraging viewers to take responsibility for the health of the planet. He paints portraits of legends and statesmen on this unusual canvas, delivering powerful messages about environmental conservation.
