Simplus Ntoto
About
In the hands of Simplus Ntoto, a young, dynamic sculptor from Congo, discarded metal is given a new, vibrant life. Inspired by Congo’s renowned metal artists, Simplus approaches his craft with unassuming passion.
His artistic journey begins with an old, decommissioned carcass that he meticulously breaks down into smaller components. Drawing from the wildlife in Congo’s national parks, he creates sketches of various animals until he forms a deep connection with one, which then serves as the model for his next creation.
Intricate iron frameworks form the foundation of his sculptures, onto which he welds numerous individually shaped and curved metal plates. This painstaking process results in a realistic embodiment of the animal’s grace and power, crafted in metal.
Every detail, from the subtly quivering whiskers to the poised hooves, enhances the realism, bringing the metal creature to life. The welding seams add to the aesthetics, mirroring the texture and diversity of an animal’s coat. A touch of color, reminiscent of the car’s vibrant past, breathes the final spark of life into his sculptures.
Simplus’ creations possess an uncanny sense of movement and dynamism, a testament to his deep understanding of animal anatomy. His work is not just about being a proficient sculptor; it’s about capturing and embodying the essence of the creature.
Just like the leopard and the eagle he identifies with, Simplus embraces challenges and tirelessly pursues excellence in his craft. With every piece he crafts, he continues to make his mark in the art world, beautifully illustrating the spirit of Congo’s wildlife in metal.
