About

Born in Sake, Nord Kivu, in 2005, John-Primo Mulimbi is a self-taught contemporary artist whose journey is as captivating as his art. From an early age, his passion for painting and drawing was evident. His dedication led him to intensive training at the Chukudu Art Center in Goma, not far from his hometown. His debut exhibition at the Uhuru Knowledge Center in Sake was a testament to his community’s unwavering support and their admiration for his unique creative flair.

In 2022, buoyed by his initial success, John embarked on a provincial tour showcasing his solo exhibition, “D’hier à Aujourd’hui”, introducing a broader audience to his artistic vision. By 2023, he had made the pivotal decision to move to Kinshasa, the artistic heart of the Democratic Republic of Congo, to further nurture his artistic pursuits. Here, he continues to push the boundaries of his creativity, exploring new subjects and mediums.

John’s artistry is deeply rooted in his experiences, his Congolese cultural heritage, and his aspiration to make a lasting mark on the global art scene. His works, often inspired by nature and everyday Congolese life, resonate with authenticity and respect for tradition. Born in a region scarred by war and conflict, John’s paintings convey messages of peaceful coexistence and hope for a brighter Congo. His diverse palette and varied techniques result in expressive, vibrant artworks that transcend the canvas, sometimes venturing into three-dimensional art installations.

For John, art is an evolving journey of self-discovery. Guided by curiosity and an insatiable desire to learn, he continually delves into various artistic forms, expanding his creative lexicon. He values artistic freedom, viewing his art as an authentic personal expression, enabling him to forge deep, sincere connections with his audience.

The story of how John-Primo Mulimbi became part of the Kitokongo community is serendipitous. Almost a year ago, a chance encounter at a Sunday market at the Academy des Beaux Arts in Kinshasa led to a memorable conversation about his paintings. That young artist, passionately discussing his creations, was none other than John. Our recent reconnection on Instagram has now brought his talent to a platform where it truly belongs. Welcome to kitokongo, John-Primo Mulimbi!
