Glory Kanga

About

Born and raised in Kinshasa, Glory Kanga is an artist who represents the vibrant heart of DR Congo’s creative scene. Kanga’s journey, which began in 1992, has always been as electric as his studies in Electricity at Collège du Réveil de N’djili would suggest. However, it was his foray into the Arts, graduating in Plastic Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa, that truly illuminated his path.

As a prolific creator, Kanga has presented his work at numerous local and international exhibitions. From the Wallonie Bruxelles in Kinshasa to Pepites d’Afrique in Paris and even Stanley’s Auction in Belgium, Kanga’s artistic imprint continues to echo across continents. His most recent ventures include a group exhibit at the Museum of African and Asian Art in Belgium, participation at the 2023 DOW’ART International Festival of Performance in Benin, and an exhibition in the USA, reflecting the future of the modern world.

Kanga’s artistic philosophy is one that speaks volumes about his fundamental values. His work is a persistent call to action, addressing humanity’s impact on the environment. Concerned about pollution, climate change, and the subsequent emergence of deadly diseases like HIV, Ebola, and Corona Virus, Kanga channels these fears into his art, creating a tapestry of bright colors and poignant messages.

Using acrylics, oil paints, and collage papers, Kanga’s color cosmos is not only visually stunning but also full of meaning. His fight is to awaken collective consciousness, using his creations as a shield against the calamities and epidemics shaking our planet.

As a co-founder and member of the collective “TOKEYI” (meaning “Let’s Move Forward” in Lingala), Kanga is a model of progress in Congolese art. His creative talent and dedication have made him a distinguished artist, embodying passion, creativity and the promotion of human rights in DR Congo and beyond.

Discover Glory Kanga, the artist who not only captures the human experience in all its vivacity but also uses his art to incite change. His dedication to art and humanity embodies the spirit of our mission at Kitokongo: to provide a gateway into the heart of DR Congo’s vibrant creative scene.
