Gires Kanda is a multi-talented artist from Kinshasa who excels in painting, performance art, and acting. His artistic journey began in childhood, inspired by cinema and a natural talent for drawing. Encouraged by his father, he refined his skills at the Institut des Beaux-Arts, where he discovered his passion for performance art.

Kanda’s work seamlessly blends activism with creativity. Using recycled materials, he crafts costumes and props that deliver powerful messages on environmental and social justice issues. His standout piece, “Homme Cravate,” critiques decision-makers and the privileged class. In this performance, he wears over 500 ties and holds an umbrella adorned with ties, mocking the self-importance often associated with them. This innovative piece drew significant attention at the Kinact 5 festival.

In addition to his performances, Gires Kanda is also an accomplished painter and actor. His paintings often depict themes of environmental responsibility and social consciousness, using vibrant colors and dynamic compositions to provoke thought and dialogue.
