Chrispin Magalhaes
About
Meet Chrispin Magalhaes Boleo, a promising Congolese artist known for his vibrant and thought-provoking works. Born in Kinshasa in 1993, Chrispin discovered his passion for art at a young age, and even as he studied General Pedagogy, he knew that his destiny lay within the realm of art.
Under the mentorship of his uncle, Master J.C Lofenia, Chrispin dove headfirst into the world of Congolese Popular Painting. This experience profoundly influenced him, as he learned to capture the lively scenes of Kinshasa’s day-to-day life. His paintings are characterized by their lively colors and unique background patters that pop off from the canvas.
However, Chrispin’s art is more than a feast for the eyes – it’s a commentary on the world around him. They narrate stories of Congolese identity, culture, and traditions, bringing to light issues that he is deeply passionate about. From the political landscape to environmental degradation, Chrispin’s pieces are a critique on contemporary society, urging for the preservation of Congo’s cultural heritage.
His professional journey is marked by his training in graphics, drawing, and painting technology at N’djili’s Fine Arts Center in 2017. He has also displayed his work in various collective exhibitions and auctions, both nationally and internationally. His pieces have graced the walls of prestigious locations such as the Galerie Lumuba Stanley and the Contemporary Art Museum in Kinshasa.
