Alidor Bope

About

Alidor Bope Minga is a passionate dealer of Kuba rugs and Congolese crafts, deeply involved in his work. Originally from Mweka in Kasai, he moved to Kinshasa for nursing studies, funding his education by selling Kuba rugs. His business now includes masks, coasters, and cup holders made from natural materials like raffia and shells. These sales fund the education of his four daughters.

Alidor’s expertise is evident in his knowledge of weaving and dyeing processes, such as using raffia and mango bark to achieve deep black hues. His fair pricing and dedication to authenticity ensure high-quality pieces directly from artisans. He crafts custom large rugs from smaller Kuba pieces, including tapis showa and velours du Kasaï, tailored for living rooms.

Participating in craft markets organized by Maison de France, Alidor also offers personal consultations via WhatsApp and private viewings at customers’ homes. He educates primary school children at the American School of Kinshasa about Kuba culture, sharing the rich traditions behind his rugs. His deep involvement makes every interaction a personal exchange of culture and craft.

We highly encourage getting in contact with him; he will gladly showcase his rugs and share their stories. Choosing a piece from Alidor is not just buying a rug; it’s bringing a piece of Congolese culture into your home. Supporting Alidor means investing in a cultural legacy preserved with passion and integrity.
