About

Abuka Ntemo Wanza, affectionately known as Tuntakhamon, is not just a painter from Kinshasa, DR Congo; he’s a testament to the power of destiny and the pull of one’s true calling. Born with artistry in his veins, Tuntakhamon’s journey to self-realization was anything but linear.

As a child, Abuka’s fingers danced across paper, creating images that he dismissed as mere child’s play. Little did he know, these early sketches were whispers of his innate talent. However, life had a way of diverting him. He dabbled in various pursuits, seeking a purpose that always felt just out of reach. It was during these wandering years that he stumbled upon the vast and intricate world of art. The universe, it seemed, had been gently nudging him towards his destiny.

Drawn to the workshops of Kinshasa, Tuntakhamon began to immerse himself, learning from seasoned artists and enriching his understanding of art. It was here that he introduced “KI-NTEMO,” a term that encapsulated his unique artistic philosophy. His works, inspired by nature and societal events, often featured Bantu statues, symbolizing the importance of understanding one’s roots and culture.

One piece, in particular, stands out—a depiction of a baby in the womb holding a pen. This self-portrait beautifully captures Tuntakhamon’s belief that he was born an artist. He sees himself as a messenger, a voice championing African and Congolese identity in a world that often overlooks its richness.

Despite his innate talent, Tuntakhamon’s journey was marked by self-doubt and financial constraints. Yet, his resilience led him to seek knowledge independently, researching techniques and perfecting his craft. Today, he sketches with pure love and devotion, always eager to learn and grow.

Tuntakhamon’s life story serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices artists make. He believes that while the path of art demands dedication, especially in the early stages, the rewards are worth the journey. For those born with a passion, the challenges faced today will pave the way for tomorrow’s masterpieces.
